(Miltos Sachtouris, Παραλογαίς, 1948)

📆
Opening: Saturday 5 October, at 18:30, at "Porto Aussa" Art Space in Naoussa.
Until September 2025

For the first time in the Aegean, Paros Park, the Municipality of Paros, and NAIAS, in collaboration with the Central Library of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, present a unique collection of maps.

The collection consists of maps donated to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki by a Greek-Egyptian gentleman named Trikoglou. He referred to the collection as "The Ark of the Memory of Hellenism". Additionally, the collection includes maps from the "Collection Ministère de la Défense, Service Historique de la Défense" of France.

The exhibition includes numerous maps of significant historical value, not only for Greece and the Cyclades but also for the international community.

The relationship between cartography, geography and politics is ancient and fundamental. On the orders of Louis XIV, exceptional engineer-cartographers, following the French school of cartography, drew maps that imitate, and sometimes are, works of art. With detailed military specifications and strict secrecy, they mapped the eastern Mediterranean, the islands, the fortifications and the entrances to the ports.
The northern Cyclades (Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Delos, Syros, Kythnos, Kea) were mapped by Pétré, while the southern Cyclades (Paros, Antiparos, Despotiko, Naxos, Donousa, Keros, Koufonisia, Herakleia, Milos, Antimilos, Folegandros, Polyaigos, Sikinos, Ios, Sifnos) were mapped by Raseau.

Opening: Saturday 5 October 18:30 at "Porto Aussa" Art Space in Naoussa.
At 8:00 PM, Emeritus Professor Evangelos Livieratos from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who is an honorary partner of the International Cartographic Union, will deliver an intriguing lecture accompanied by maps and cartography on the topic "From the islands of the world to Paros."

The exhibition is organized by the Municipality of Paros, Paros Park, and NAIAS. The Central Library of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) has been invited to participate.

The exhibition will be open until September 2025.
Visits are by appointment with Mrs. Palasia Georgiadou. Please call +30 6937034981 to schedule.
